Chapter 109 Battery Workshop

Chapter 109 Battery Workshop
When he went to work on Monday, Xu Qiang simply cleaned the office, said goodbye to Zhang Decai, and went to the battery workshop of Shengli Machinery Factory.

Last time in the information room, Xu Qiang looked up the main products of Shengli Machinery Factory since its establishment. Among them, Xu Qiang discovered a problem. That is, the fuse batteries and reserve batteries currently produced by the factory are very backward. As early as World War II, this kind of battery had been used in the military field. Until now, the factory's electronic fuses still use this technology.

Xu Qiang didn't know much about electronic fuses. After all, he didn't graduate from electronics. But when it came to batteries, Xu Qiang was definitely an expert. In his previous life, when he was working at the BJ Chemical Research Institute, he once helped a military enterprise develop a new type of reserve battery. Later, due to the successful development of this project, Xu Qiang also won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, which also became the capital for him to gain a foothold in the Beijing Institute of Chemical Technology.

However, in this era, due to the limitations of materials and processing technology, Xu Qiang cannot directly apply some of his previous life's patents to the factory. But with his technology and experience, he is able to greatly improve the factory's battery research and development level.

Normally speaking, one is not allowed to go to other posts during work, but Xu Qiang understood that Liu Biao put him in the scrap warehouse not to let him really look after the warehouse. Since he could even enter the information department, there would be no problem entering other workshops.

But one thing is that if Xu Qiang fails to produce any decent results in the long term, he may really have to become a warehouse manager.

"Your workshop?"

Seeing that Xu Qiang was wearing different work clothes, he was stopped by a middle-aged man as soon as he entered the door of the battery workshop.

"It's like this. The factory director asked me to visit this workshop to prepare for a technical transformation project." Xu Qiang said calmly.

"Are you from the technical department? Why haven't I seen you before?"

"I'm Xu Qiang from the chemical workshop."

"Xu Qiang?" The middle-aged man was stunned for a moment, then asked in surprise, "Are you the Xu Qiang who won the first prize for military-to-civilian transfer?"

"It's me." Xu Qiang nodded.

"So you are Xu Qiang. How come you are here? This workshop is dangerous. There are many toxic and hazardous raw materials. Ordinary people are not allowed to enter." The middle-aged man looked at Xu Qiang carefully and then said, "If you really want to go in and take a look, I can take you around."

"Thank you so much. By the way, what is your name?" Xu Qiang said gratefully.

Xu Qiang didn't expect that he was so famous that even the team leader of the battery workshop knew him.

In fact, what Xu Qiang didn’t know was that their names were now known throughout the factory.

The reason is very simple. It was the last military-to-civilian recruitment activity. After all, the 800 yuan bonus caused too much sensation. Many people were paying attention to this matter. As a temporary worker, Xu Qiang naturally became a hot topic among factory workers after winning the award. It is normal for him to have such a high degree of popularity.

In addition, when the factory director Liu Biao came back from the province, he mentioned the success of his cooperation with Xu Qiang in obtaining special funds in the province during the workshop leaders' meeting, and praised Xu Qiang's performance. It was also because of this that Sun Yulin, the director of the chemical workshop, changed his attitude towards Xu Qiang by 180 degrees. So it was normal for the team leader of the battery workshop to have such a reaction to such a "favorite" in front of the factory director.

"My name is Zhang Qiang, and I'm the team leader of this workshop." The middle-aged man said with a smile.

"Team Leader Zhang, I came here today just to learn about the production process of our workshop." Xu Qiang smiled and continued, "Is this not a leak?"

"As long as they are from our own factory, there is no problem, but we cannot leak it to the outside world." Zhang Qiang smiled and continued, "This workshop used to be just a part of the assembly workshop. It was only separated out two years ago. We mainly produce military reserve batteries and fuse batteries. Anyway, this workshop has a strong odor, and most people are reluctant to come here..."

"No matter how strong the smell is, can it be as strong as our chemical workshop? As soon as you go in, there is the smell of rotten eggs." Xu Qiang said with a sneer.

"Hahaha, that's true!" Hearing this, Zhang Qiang laughed.

Then the two entered the production workshop.

Although military batteries and civilian batteries have the same principle and both use chemical reactions to create a discharge process, they have two completely different designs in terms of product form.

The electronic fuse of Shengli Machinery Factory still uses the design of traditional proximity fuse. The battery part is located in the middle of the shell, which is a glass ampoule filled with electrolyte. This bottle is about the size of a small soda bottle, and the bottle is surrounded by metal plates used as positive and negative electrodes.

The working process of this battery is also very ingenious. When the shell leaves the barrel, the huge impact force will shatter the glass ampoule and release the electrolyte. Under the action of the centrifugal force of the rotating projectile, the electrolyte will flow into the stacked carbon plates (positive electrode) and zinc plates (negative electrode), thereby generating electric current. The released charge will trigger an electric detonator, which in turn detonates the main charge in the shell.

As for the electronic fuse part, it includes a trigger and an electronic switch. Once the shell is fired, the radio transmitter in the fuse starts to transmit a set of continuous radio signals. The radio waves will be reflected back when they encounter a moving target. The whole process is similar to the working principle of radar.

When the receiver receives the reflected radio signal, if the shell is flying towards the target, the closer the distance between the two is, the greater the "density" of the received radio waves. Once the received signal strength exceeds a certain critical value, it will stimulate the thyristor trigger, release the charge stored in a capacitor in advance, and detonate the explosives.

"This glass bottle containing electrolyte in our factory is customized from a factory in Shanghai. It has good adaptability to extreme temperatures. In the past, we mainly produced lead-acid batteries. Our factory's production technology is very mature. Now the new product uses nickel-chromium batteries, which have the best macroscopic performance..." Zhang Qiang introduced on the side.

"Nickel-chromium battery? Then what is the minimum storage temperature of our nickel-chromium battery?" Xu Qiang asked after thinking for a while.

In Xu Qiang's memory, nickel-chromium batteries did have good performance, but they were not very resistant to low temperatures. Even at some extreme temperatures, their performance would be greatly reduced. Ordinary civilian use might not be a problem, but if used in some high-end weapons, it would be a very fatal flaw...
