Chapter 124: Don’t show off your wealth, eat melons with you
Had dinner.
Chen Hui brought in the sheets that were drying outside and hung them in the hall on the second floor.
After hanging it for an hour or two, the sheets are just barely stopping dripping water. They will have to be put in the sun for another day tomorrow to dry.
"Wife, do you know there is a thing called a washing machine?"
"Put wet clothes, pants and bed sheets in it, roll them for a few minutes, and they will be dry when you take them out."
Chen Hui straightened the wet sheets and spoke to the busy figure in the kitchen.
"That must be very expensive, right?" An Wenjing responded while washing the dishes.
"I don't know how much it costs. I'll check it out next time I go to the county town."
"We also need to go to the village chief's house to see how his household uses electricity and learn how many large appliances this electricity can power."
With such a small amount of wire, it would be a bit difficult to support both a refrigerator and a washing machine.
If he has to choose between the two, Chen Hui thinks the washing machine is more important.
Especially in winter, it is cold and the clothes are thick.
"Brother Chen Hui, I think the most important thing is to save some money." An Wenjing responded.
"Shouldn't we make more money? If we don't make money, we won't be able to save even if we want to."
As Chen Hui was talking, he came down from the second floor, and An Wenjing had also finished washing the dishes.
The two of them took the money they were going to give to Chen Guobiao and the others and went out together holding hands.
When they arrived at Chen Guobiao's house, he was talking loudly about the afternoon hunting. When he saw Chen Hui come in, he happily called his wife Guo Hongxia to make tea for them.
"No tea, no tea. I just had dinner and I really can't drink any."
Chen Hui stopped Guo Hongxia who was about to make tea and took out the money from his pocket.
He took out the thickest stack and handed it over, saying, "There are seventy-seven in total. Uncle Guo Biao, count them."
"What are you counting? How can I not trust you with such a small amount of money?" Chen Guobiao took the money and put it on the table.
He also asked his wife to give Chen Hui some of the new pickles made this year.
"You're still the one who's pretending."
"There has been a lot of rain this year, so the pickles are saltier. You need to wash them twice more before eating them."
As Guo Hongxia spoke, she came out of the kitchen and handed a small bag to An Wenjing.
"Thank you, auntie." An Wenjing took it and said.
"What are you thanking me for? Kid, you really don't want to drink tea?" Guo Hongxia smiled and patted him.
"No, no, I really don't want to drink." An Wenjing smiled and shook her head.
"Aunt Hongxia, don't bother. We still have to go give money to Uncle Weijun. If we don't go, he will think I ran away." Chen Hui joked.
"Ha ha ha ha."
"No need to go to his house. I just saw him going to the bridge head, and Wang Zheng seemed to be there too." Chen Guobiao said.
"Okay, let's go then."
After a few more polite words, Chen Hui took An Wenjing towards the bridge.
There were already quite a few old men sitting on the bridge, enjoying the cool air and chatting. Chen Guangming mingled among them as usual, and strangely, he didn't look out of place at all.
"Uncle Weijun! Wang Zheng!" Chen Hui shouted first from a few meters away.
After all, wealth should not be exposed, and there are many people on the bridge.
Chen Weijun and Wang Zheng looked at each other and stood up.
Chen Hui took out two sums of money tied with ropes from his pocket and handed them to them respectively.
Chen Xu walked past, glanced at a few people, and walked across the bridge in his own direction without saying a word.
"Thanks, brother!" Wang Zheng said, and quickly put the money into his pocket.
"Go home when you go back later and ask your aunt to pack some melons for you to take back."
“Wash it and soak it in a water tank overnight. It’s a little cool and tastes very good.” Chen Weijun took the money and said with a smile.
"Got it. I'll go get it right away."
Chen Hui led An Wenjing away, and when they passed by Chen Weijun's house, they went in and took a few cucumbers. When they got home, they washed them, peeled them, and cut them into small pieces with a rolling knife.
Then he took out some rock sugar, cracked it into pieces, sprinkled it evenly on the melon, handed it to An Wenjing and said, "Try it."
"Add sugar to cucumber? What kind of wasteful way of eating is this?"
An Wenjing grabbed a piece and put it in her mouth with emotion, then nodded at Chen Hui with a smile.
"It's delicious, crispy and sweet!"
The two of them gathered around the stove and ate the melon. Chen Hui asked again, "It's almost time for the tide to go low. Shall we go fishing?"
"Go! I haven't been there for several days!"
"I want to eat crabs and fish. It would be even better if I could have some shrimps." An Wenjing said with a smile.
"I haven't even left the house yet, but I've already ordered the food."
Chen Hui joked and rinsed the bowl.
The two of them went behind the door to change into rain boots.
Chen Hui grabbed a net bag and put it in his pocket. An Wenjing saw it and asked, "Brother Chen Hui, are you planning to catch fish for Ms. Huang Xiulian?"
"It's too early to catch them now. Even with oxygen supply, they may not be able to survive until then."
"Since you're going, let's go and have a look. I already have an idea about the rich woman, and I'll arrange a little surprise for you."
Chen Hui said as he picked up a flashlight.
After checking, the flashlight was still bright, so he put it and the long pliers into the bucket and handed the bucket to An Wenjing.
He also took another flashlight and pliers, put them in the bucket, and walked out carrying the bucket.
"Surprise?! What surprise?"
"Tell me about it!"
An Wenjing hurriedly followed him out the door and turned back to close the door.
He put his arm around Chen Hui and asked him impatiently.
"You said it was a surprise, but of course I can't tell you now."
"I'll know it sooner or later anyway. The sooner you tell me, the sooner I can start to feel happy. Isn't that good?"
Chen Hui thought about it and felt that this made sense.
He leaned in closer and whispered, "In a few days, I'll take you to an island for your honeymoon."
"Honeymoon? Is that the kind of honeymoon that foreign young ladies and gentlemen have when they go out together after getting married in novels?" An Wenjing said with a smile.
"Yes, that kind of honeymoon."
"The first time I went out to sea with Uncle Guang, we passed a small island. There was no one fishing on that island, and there were many more snails and crabs on the shore than at the beach in Chenjia Village."
"There are a lot of seafood in the waters near the island, and the seabed is much more beautiful than the shore. I'll take you to the sea to see it." Chen Hui said.
"Going to the sea? Then you still don't want to do that?"
An Wenjing shook her head, the psychological trauma of being washed away by the waves last time was still there.
Apart from that, she was looking forward to the rest of Chen Hui's plan.
"Then we'll ask if they have the diving equipment that fishermen use. If they do, we can rent one."
"If not, and you're afraid, don't go down. Just wait for me on the shore."
"Yeah!" An Wenjing nodded.
Going out and having a honeymoon, just thinking about it makes me happy.
"Why don't we spend a night on the island? Let's give it a try." Chen Hui whispered in An Wenjing's ear.
An Wenjing's smiling face suddenly turned red.
He hit Chen Hui hard, and cursed him with a smile: "Rogue!"
"Hahahaha, I was just kidding!"
"Even if you dare, I don't. The wilderness is still an island. It's very scary even if there are no wild animals." Chen Hui laughed loudly.
