Chapter 104 Conferment

Chapter 104 Conferment
In the early morning, Baiyun Temple is more lively than usual.

Many pilgrims heard that something big was going to happen at Baiyun Temple, so they took the trouble to come to the mountain just to see this rare event at Baiyun Temple.

There were many vendors hawking their wares on the mountain and on the foothills, and many pilgrims carrying baskets on their way. The place was crowded and bustling.

The Taoists of Baiyun Temple wore their robes and walked around with happy faces.

The robes were so graceful that they were dazzling. The green dragon-patterned pagoda robe, the blue Yu Luo Xiao Tai robe, and the red five-dragon unicorn robe were all dazzling. Walking between the palaces and temples, there were pilgrims worshipping.

Such a grand ceremony is rarely seen in normal times. The pilgrims had no idea what good things would happen at Baiyun Temple today, and they all came to join in the fun.

Li Daoxuan wore a navy blue Taoist robe, a Zhuangzi crown on his head, and auspicious cloud embroidered brocade boots on his feet.

Looking in the bronze mirror, I saw a handsome young man with bright eyes and white teeth.

Today was the day he was ordained, and it was also the day he took the next step after officially becoming a Taoist priest. His name would naturally be on the Taoist roster in the future. When he walked around outside, he would be more worthy of being called a Taoist priest.

There are different ways of becoming a Taoist priest in Taoism. Zhengyi Taoist priests receive ordination certificates while Quanzhen Taoist priests receive precepts.

Quanzhen people usually receive ordination and become Taoist monks. They leave their parents, their ancestors, and their love for their children, and practice Taoism in silence, devoting themselves to Taoism. This is called becoming a monk. Many of the comments about becoming a Taoist monk that Li Daoxuan had heard of were also referring to this.

It is said that when one person becomes a monk, all nine clans benefit from it. After receiving the first precepts, he is called a "disciple of the ten precepts" and a simple Taoist priest. This is the Quanzhen precepts.

Compared with Quanzhen, Zhengyi is quite different. To be ordained, one must have received the ordination, been admitted to the Heavenly Court, worshipped the Three Masters, been ordained, and demonstrated the Dao, becoming a disciple of the Xuanmen sect who can communicate with the “gods” on the altar, that is, a judge with the certificate to practice law.

According to the Jade Code of the Temple of Heaven, people like Li Daoxuan who were ordained for the first time should receive the "Taishang Sanwudu Gongjing Lu". They should be familiar with the "Morning and Evening Gongke Jing" and recite the "Laozi Daodejing" and "Duren Jing". They can obtain the sixth or seventh grade titles.

If one continues to improve in the Dao, one can continue to gain additional talismans. The highest level is the "Shangqing Dadong Sutra talisman", or "Shangqing talisman" for short. Only Heavenly Masters can obtain this.

Even the old Taoist priest, who was revered as a true man by the world, was only granted the "Shangqing Three Caves and Five Thunder Sutra", which was a third-grade title and was called "Three Caves True Man".

Without further ado, Li Daoxuan packed his clothes and pushed the door open.

Li Yanming wore the Taoist uniform and followed behind Li Daoxuan. He had also looked around Baiyun Temple in the past few days, and was always immersed in the sea of Taoist scriptures. Ordinary companions were responsible for taking care of the young master, but when it came to Li Daoxuan, he was the one who took care of Li Yanming.

The boy was eager to learn and would always ask him questions about words he didn't understand. Seeing that he was eager to learn, Li Daoxuan was willing to teach him. He also let him use the pen, ink, paper and inkstone, and told him not to forget to study.

Li Yanming was extremely grateful for this opportunity. Not only did he not squander the money based on Li Daoxuan's words, but he also used more paper sparingly.

Often a piece of white paper could be used several times, and Li Daoxuan accidentally saw his method of practicing calligraphy several times.

This kid practiced calligraphy by first writing on the table with a pen dipped in water several times, then writing on white paper with a pen dipped in water again, then letting the paper dry, and then writing again with ink. This way he could write multiple times at once and avoid wasting paper.

After seeing this situation several times, Li Daoxuan told him not to be too frugal. However, Li Yanming acted like a little adult and told Li Daoxuan seriously: paper is too expensive, the young master is willing to give him a favor because the young master is a good person, not because he can waste paper. If he listens to the young master and does whatever he wants, then he will ruin the young master's kindness. If he behaves like this, he might as well go back to Lijia Village and herd cattle.

Li Daoxuan was really impressed when he heard this. Children who love learning these days are really sensible and know that they should not take favors from others for granted. So he was very relaxed about Li Yanming's study and even lent him some of the Taoist scriptures in the temple.

The old Taoist was naturally willing to do this. After all, who wouldn't be happy to see a child who studies so hard?

Sometimes Li Yanming was curious about the rituals in the temple, and Li Daoxuan would answer one or two questions. The brothers and sisters in the temple were also very friendly to Li Daoxuan, the little follower. "Young master, you look really good in this Taoist robe." Li Yanming smiled and flattered. He followed Li Daoxuan with a book in his arms, squeezed through the crowd, and walked towards the temple.

Of course, he was not the only one who participated in the ordination ceremony, but the old Taoist also wanted to accept disciples. So this ceremony was naturally more lively.

Li Daoxuan also heard from the old Taoist that he had only accepted two disciples in his life. One died in a fight with others, and the other betrayed his master and hid in the martial arts world. Now that he accepted Li Daoxuan, he was considered the last disciple of the old Taoist in his life.

"I have taught two disciples in the past, but they didn't live up to their expectations. I can only blame myself for not teaching them well. Your talent is ten thousand times higher than that of my two senior brothers, and your future is limitless. I know that you have a kind character, but I still want to give you a warning. Among all the difficult things in the world, the most difficult one is to live up to your original aspiration." The old Taoist taught earnestly.

Li Daoxuan naturally understood, and bowed to the old Taoist seriously. No matter what the future holds, the old Taoist will always be his master.

With a slight sigh, he saw a dozen disciples wearing the same Taoist robes as him, holding wooden tablets and documents, standing outside the Jade Emperor Hall waiting.

The Jade Emperor Hall is the main hall of Baiyun Temple. Such a grand event must naturally be held in the Jade Emperor Hall.

These are all Taoists who came to receive the ordination. Some of them have practiced for more than ten years and are much older than Li Daoxuan. However, they have not made any progress in their practice since they were ordained, so they were not given the ordination. Some of them had never had the opportunity to receive the ordination, but took advantage of the ordination ceremony held by Baiyun Temple and were recommended to come and receive the ordination.

According to Taoism, only after receiving the ordination certificate can one perform magic and show miracles, slay demons and evil spirits, save lives, and relieve distress.

These old Taoists all think that this is nonsense. If everything needs to be granted, where would there be so many Minmao Dharma lineages in the world? Although Minmao has its own rules, such as "Guojiao", its form and method are completely different from the granting of a talisman, but can't it still perform magic?

The initiation of the ordination is nothing more than becoming a disciple. Once you have entered the master's sect, you will be bound by the master's constraints and protection. This is the essence of the initiation of the ordination.

Li Daoxuan greeted all the brothers and stood in the front. After all, he was the youngest and the shortest. Moreover, he was the most popular among the old Taoists in Baiyun Temple. Everyone had probably heard something about him and secretly thought that this brother might be extraordinary.

Standing in front of the Jade Emperor Hall, with people watching, Li Daoxuan was a little nervous at first, but gradually got used to it.

When the sun rose above the roof and the sound of bells and drums rang out in the hall, Li Daoxuan and the others walked into the hall.

Taoist priests stood in front of the hall holding hu tablets. The old Taoist priest in front of the hall was wearing purple robes. On his left and right stood Taoist priests wearing purple robes.

These are the three masters who confer the ordination, namely the Master of Transmission, the Master of Supervision and the Master of Recommendation.

Among them, the Taoist with white beard is the real person of Jiuxiao Wanfu Palace. Being ranked as one of the three masters, his status can naturally be imagined.

The other one had white hair and was also an older man. They were laughing and chatting with the old Taoist, but no one knew what they were talking about.

When they saw Li Daoxuan and other disciples coming in, they all faced them with serious expressions.

In the Jade Emperor Hall, candlelight flickered. On the left and right sides, various gods sat, and in the main hall, the Jade Emperor had a kind face.

On both sides of the hall, there are three Taoists in yellow robes with large flowers and three Taoists in red robes with large flowers. They are respectively the guardian of the way, the guardian of the scriptures, the guardian of the law, the guardian of the talisman, the guardian of the precepts, and the guardian of the altar for this ordination ceremony.

Behind him stood six Taoist priests in red robes with small flowers. Behind them stood a row of sutra masters in sutra robes, and to the side were Taoist priests in green robes who were giving sutras.

Such scenes are truly eye-catching, with scriptures being sung, bells and drums being played, and the Taoist sect being powerful and majestic. All the Taoist priests and immortals of Baiyun Temple are gathered here.
