Chapter 204 Buddhas are made by all living beings, but their hearts are not firm!
The most valuable words are out there.
Naturally, the monk Nagarjuna wanted to see the understanding of his disciples, the abbot, and Li Dangxin and others, so he asked this question.
The monks who can enter the two Zen temples to practice and become the abbot have excellent character, roots, understanding, etc., not to mention the disciples of Venerable Nagarjuna.
In addition, when the monk Nagarjuna suddenly spoke, how could the disciples and the abbot not know that he was taking the opportunity to test them.
After a long silence, a disciple who saw the monk's eyes sweeping over him hesitated for a moment before answering bravely:
"It must be the wind that is moving. Without the wind, how can the flag move?"
The monk Nagarjuna's expression remained unchanged. He neither said that the disciple was right nor said that he was wrong. He just nodded slightly and passed by the question.
The other disciples, the chief monk, the monks, and Dayao gained courage when they saw that Venerable Nagarjuna did not rebuke them but nodded slightly.
The head monk of Prajna clasped his hands together and sang in Sanskrit: "Amitabha, what you said before was wrong. I thought it was the flag that moved. It is true that the wind blows the flag, but if there is no wind, does that mean the flag will not move?"
"Dead objects can be awakened, just like a sword in the hand of a swordsman, a sharp blade in the hand of a knifeman, so why can't a flag move without wind?"
Hearing the rebuttal of the Prajna Patriarch, another disciple immediately spoke up: "Amitabha, what the Prajna Patriarch said is wrong. We are discussing the issue of the wind blowing the flag, how can we digress to the topic of inanimate objects awakening spirits?"
"Since it is a question of the wind blowing the flag, then I still think that the former is right. The wind blowing the flag means that it is the wind that is moving."
Seeing this disciple speaking up for the former, the other chief monks couldn't help but frown.
Is this more than the number of people? ! !
You disciples are of the same blood, and as the elders, aren't we also in the same boat?
Wherever there are people, there are rivers and lakes. Even in the quiet place of Buddhism, there are opportunities for intrigue.
The monk Longshu was the abbot of Liangchan Temple, and these disciples were often proud of Li Dangxin and protected him very much.
But Li Dangxin often violated Buddhist precepts, was a wine-drinking and meat-eating monk, and even married and had children. This caused the stubborn abbot and the disciples of the monk Nagarjuna to come into conflict with each other.
The head monk of the precepts put his hands together, sighed and said "Amitabha", and then said: "This is a bit biased. Even if dead things are not spiritual, does it mean that the flag must move when the wind blows?"
"Let the wind blow this flag and see if it moves!"
As the Chief Monk of Discipline said this, he waved his hand, and his Vajra inner force stirred the energy of heaven and earth, and it actually turned into an iron flag as thick as a bucket and stood in front of everyone.
All the disciples under the name of Venerable Nagarjuna frowned. The abbot opposite them was not in accordance with Buddhist principles!
However, if we don’t talk about Buddhist principles, when it comes to physics and convincing people with virtue, these disciples have never lost to the abbots.
"Who said the wind can't move?!"
A disciple who was like a sky-holding arhat waved his hands like banana leaves with great force, and gusts of wind blew past. The wind was as strong as a knife and blew away the iron flag in an instant.
"It seems that the quality of the Discipline Master's flag is not very good. Not only was it blown by the wind, but it was also blown away!"
The disciple clapped his hands and looked happily at the leaders opposite him.
All the abbots were furious and immediately prepared to stage a classic Buddhist debate, that is, a group fight, with the disciples opposite them in front of Nagarjuna and Li Dangxin.
However, the senior monk Longshu was not interested in watching them fight today. He looked at the head monk of the Sutra Repository and asked:
"Do you think it's the wind that's moving? Or the flag?"
When the monk Nagarjuna opened his mouth, all the disciples and abbots chanted "Amitabha" in unison and calmed down again.
Hearing the question from Senior Monk Nagarjuna, the head monk of the Sutra Collection had a calm expression. He stood up and bowed, then thought for a while before saying:
"I think it is not the wind that is moving, nor the flag that is moving, but his eyes. When he opens his eyes and sees the flag, the wind blows and the flag moves; when he closes his eyes and does not see, the wind stops and the flag stops."
The monk Longshu nodded slightly, then looked at Li Dangxin and asked the same question:
"Be careful, do you think it's the wind that's moving, or the flag?"
Li Dangxin also stood up and saluted before answering:
"Master, I think it is the heart that is moving. If the mind is pure and natural, the wind will stop and the flag will stop. If the mind is full of distracting thoughts, the wind will blow and the flag will also move." A smile appeared on the corner of the monk Longshu's mouth. The answer of Li Dangxin, the chief monk of the Buddhist scriptures, can be said to be the most similar to the answers of Bodhicitta and Yuanyin.
Among them, the first seat of the Sutra Collection was superficial, but Li Dangxin saw through the illusion and was even better. However, Li Dangxin's answer was three points different from the answers of Puxin and Yuanyin.
When a few people looked at the field again.
The rude monk, who was ashamed and angry at the disappointment in the eyes of the thousands of monks, shouted loudly:
"Am I wrong?"
Bodhisin finally spoke, shook his head, then nodded, and said calmly: "What the master said is naturally right for the master."
The monk was naturally not a fool, so he understood that Yuanyin meant that his statement was wrong to him.
But before the reckless monk could question him, Puxin pointed at the animals such as tigers, leopards, wolves and bears behind the thousands of monks, picked out a golden monkey and asked:
"Master, may I ask, this monkey was born in the wilderness and forests, and by chance came here, can it become a Buddha?"
The reckless monk sneered, with the shame and anger still on his face, and now he said with disdain:
"How can wild animals, who are not influenced by the Buddha's teachings, become Buddhas?"
"Even if I become a Buddha, it won't be its turn to become a Buddha. This is just wishful thinking!!!"
The golden monkey that was used as an example before seemed to have gained spiritual enlightenment. After hearing the monk's words, its eyes showed panic, loss, fear and many other emotions, and it could not help but lower its head.
However, just when the golden monkey lowered its head, Puxin took two steps back and walked to the side of the golden monkey. His palm, as warm as jade, gently fell on the golden monkey's head.
The golden monkey raised his head and saw Bodhisattva's eyes, which were as warm as the winter sun and tinged with compassion.
Pu Xin placed one hand on the golden monkey's head and raised the other hand with one palm up. He looked at the monk with a firm gaze and said in a deep and clear voice:
"Amitabha!"
"All living beings are equal, without distinction of superiority or inferiority. How can there be superiority or inferiority in Buddha nature?"
"All living things are born with Buddha nature. Sheep kneel to suckle their mothers, crows repay their parents, and humans are no different!"
"The Buddha nature of the monkey is the same as that of the master. If the master can become a Buddha, how can the monkey not become a Buddha?!!"
Bodhisattva's voice was not loud, but every word he spoke was distinct and understandable, and all the monks surrounding him could hear it clearly.
Yuan Yin even put his hands together and repeated in a cold and firm voice: "There is no difference between people from north and south, and there is no difference between Buddhas and humans, animals or creatures. Buddhas are born from the heart, so how can there be any difference in Buddha nature?"
"There is no difference between ordinary people and cultivators. Even if there are differences in cultivation, how can there be differences in Buddha nature?"
"All living beings in heaven and earth can become Buddhas!"
"Buddhahood is created by sentient beings, but sentient beings' minds are not firm!"
For a moment, the monks surrounding Puxin and Yuanyin were moved by his thoughts and also put their hands together and recited Yuanyin’s words in unison.
One sound spreads from one to another, and finally becomes a constant stream of sounds.
In the end, the news spread to thousands of monks in the surrounding area.
The thousands of monks around Bodhidharma, whether they are men or women, old or young, ordinary monks or other living beings, are all grateful to him.
