Chapter 13: Church of the Sun
After the magic ring was broken, people could no longer gain power from it, but the method of drinking magic potions and obtaining certain special effects for a short period of time still existed.
"This thing is not cheap. What is it used for?" Lind asked.
"In a certain period of time, run faster? More powerful? So that you won't get tired?" Old Cherry scratched his cheek helplessly. The sound of Old Peel being scratched sounded like the noise made by Lind scratching the soles of his feet: "Only 100 gold stamps!"
"My money didn't come from the wind, old Cherry."
At least it's a little harder than picking up money on a windy day. It's not easy to guide players to work.
He had previously lamented that old Cherry had suddenly become a good person, but he didn't expect that the other party was waiting for him here.
Rather than drinking a bottle of potion, he would rather buy something useful.
Old Cherry sighed, "A lady gave it to me a few days ago. She said that this bottle of medicine was worth at least 100 gold stamps and that I had to sell it. She would come to collect the money in two days."
"Does Roning have a daughter?" Lind wondered. Apart from Mayor Roning, he really couldn't understand who old Cherry would be afraid of.
He is the manager of the street vendors' market, and countless people coming and going have to do things according to old Cherry's mood.
"The mayor is not married, and she has no relationship with the mayor," Old Cherry whispered, "but she is a witch who can brew all kinds of magical potions. The mayor needs her to make some things, like the bottle you see, but no one will spend money to buy such things."
You know it's a waste of money, but you still asked me to buy it!
"If players knew about this, they would definitely buy it," Lind muttered to himself, then shook his head and said, "It's a pity that I can't use it."
There was no value for money in buying this thing with 100 gold stamp tickets, so he decisively refused and turned away.
Looking at his departing back, Old Cherry couldn't help but sigh, and then looked at the furs that he had just bought back without much bargaining.
Fur is indeed a hot commodity.
If someone else came to sell, Old Cherry would definitely lower the price to the extreme, but a discovery made him feel that he could not offend Lind, and even had to show appropriate goodwill.
Because Old Cherry found that the wolf skins were very fresh, they should have been killed within a day or two.
Killing more than twenty jackals in a short period of time, Lind must have a very terrifying team under his command!
People always have to leave themselves a little way out.
……
The area of Prey Town is actually smaller than that of Star Dragon Outpost, with crowded houses and narrow paths.
Lind asked the soldiers to guard the purchased supplies while he strolled around alone.
The river water below the small stone bridge has not dried up yet, but it is only ankle-deep, making it difficult for any fish or shrimp to survive in it.
Half of it is in ruins, which reminds people of the doomsday scene when the magic ring was broken and the sky collapsed and the earth cracked.
In front is a tall house where the mayor of Prey Town, Ronin, lives. It is said to be built in the style of a castle and can accommodate more than one hundred people.
The door opened and a horse-drawn carriage slowly came out from inside.
The car was packed with a group of dwarfs, with bruised faces and noses, looking extremely miserable.
There were many people watching the fun around. The time near dusk was a rare rest time for everyone. They didn't have to worry about the day's work, but it was not yet time to huddle in their houses and shiver at night.
"It was a dwarf circus. I heard they were responsible for performing for the mayor. It looks like they messed up the show."
It is hard for ordinary people to survive in this world, let alone a group of dwarfs. There are many malicious speculators in the crowd. Seeing a group of dwarfs who can't carry anything on their shoulders or hands just act stupidly on the stage and live better than themselves, quite a number of people feel unbalanced.
Linde paid no attention to this group of people. He looked beyond the ruins and towards the church in the distance.
As the state religion of the Kingdom of Rand, the Church of the Sun is like dandelion seeds spread across every corner of the world, and can be found in some larger towns.
Lind hoped that the Sun Cathedral could still function normally, so that he could at least get in touch with Goliath's family, or his ex-girlfriend who had been out of touch for two years.
But when he reached the church door, he no longer had any hope.
The famous stone statue of "The Song of the White Knights of the Eternal Frost" collapsed, the wings inserted on its back broke, and the spider unscrupulously pulled the web to define its hunting range.
Walking past the collapsed stone statues blocking the road, weeds began to grow in the cracks of the finely paved stone road.
This is a mutant plant with strong vitality. It can grow in any environment, but at the same time, no living thing can obtain any nutrition and value from it. If you take it, you will become confused and unconscious.
Perhaps the only reason they exist is to tell passers-by that the land here used to have some nutrients, but we came here to take root, and guess what? Now it is a wasteland.
The church door opened a crack.
Linde looked up and saw the huge church door that was three people tall.
The relief on the lintel is a figure wearing armor and riding a dragon.
He pushed the church door, making a dull sound.
When I walked into the church, there was surprisingly no pungent smell of dust.
The evening sunlight shone through the broken stained glass windows, making the interior of the church dim, but not so dark that nothing could be seen. There were several statues inside.
The statue closest to the broken window is one meter tall. The man has a huge sword inserted diagonally on the platform below his feet, and at the same time, he has stretched out his head so that the huge sword is pressed against the back of his neck in a guillotine-like manner.
There's movement behind!
Linde turned his head subconsciously, and an old face full of wrinkles appeared behind him at some point, staring at him expressionlessly.
He startled and jumped away.
This is an old nun, dressed in black robes, with unblinking eyes, more like a dead person than a living person.
The old nun's voice was high-pitched, with the sound of someone who had worked in the church for many years, as if she was singing something: "That is the Storm Knight, representing repentance and bravery. He was distressed that he could not save the baby at the border, and was willing to cut off his own head to atone for his sin."
Lin De thought to himself, "He has a pretty bad temper."
The old nun asked: "Are you a believer who came to worship?"
Lind did not answer. He himself was not a believer at all, either before or after he came here.
He said directly: "My friend is a clergyman of Goliath's Sun Church, but I can't contact Goliath now. I want to ask what the current situation there is?"
Although he wanted to show his attachment to his ex-girlfriend, Lind knew in his heart that he had only traveled through time not long ago and did not care much about the imaginary marriage in the corner of his memory.
He just wanted to know the current situation of the distant capital, whether anyone had organized a stronger force, whether His Royal Highness the Prince had any plans to rebuild the country, and... the information left for the undead players.
Lind, who has no way to level up by defeating monsters, has intelligence as his only advantage.
It seems unlikely that the other party knows useful information, but since he is here, he still plans to know more detailed and useful information. After all, this is the Church of the Sun.
