Chapter 20: Mr. Chu, the Capitalist
As soon as I got off the bus, it felt like I had stepped into a desert.
Lu Mingfei stood outside Open Mind, fanning himself with a small fan he had received from an old lady on the street.
On the small fan is an advertisement for XX Men's Hospital. The front has the name of the hospital and a very professional-looking medical team printed on it, while on the back is a short story about how someone regained his manhood with the help of the hospital's doctors.
The bus took about forty minutes to make a circle. Lu Mingfei didn't bring a watch, and he estimated that it should be less than three o'clock, so he stood outside the door waiting for his senior brother to come.
After waiting for a while, a hand suddenly rested on Lu Mingfei's shoulder, startling him.
"Wow, you're a ghost." When he turned around, he found that it was Chu Zihang. "Where did you come from?" Lu Mingfei asked.
"I've been in the coffee shop. When I saw you coming, I reached out to say hello to you. But you didn't see it." Chu Zihang said.
"You came so early? I thought I was early."
"Well, my house is closer to this coffee shop. I was negligent. Next time we meet, I will choose a place closer to your house."
“There’s no need to be so troublesome. Just be casual.” Lu Mingfei waved his hand in front of his chest.
"Okay, let's discuss this later. Let's not stand outside the door like an idiot." Chu Zihang tilted his head towards the coffee shop, "Let's go in and talk."
Lu Mingfei followed Chu Zihang into Open Mind. There was a string of wind chimes hanging at the door. When the door was opened, the wind chimes would gently hit the glass and metal, making a sound of collision.
Lu Mingfei raised his head and looked around. Perhaps because they were not here at the same time, the furnishings in the store were slightly different from when he and Chen Wenwen came here in his previous life, but the general style was still similar.
Chu Zihang stopped in front of the bar and turned around: "What would you like to drink? It's my treat."
Lu Mingfei looked at the mixed Chinese and English sign on the bar counter and felt a little dazzled.
Although Lu Mingfei studied in American University for three years, he never developed the habit of drinking coffee. He couldn't even distinguish the different types of coffee. He only knew Americano and latte.
When he got together in his sophomore year, he met Zhao Menghua, Chen Wenwen, Xu Yuanyuan and others at Starbucks. Seeing that Lu Mingfei couldn't even order, Zhao Menghua laughed at Lu Mingfei for being too unsophisticated, as he hadn't learned how to drink coffee in two years at Americana.
Xu Yuanyuan and the others also laughed along, while Chen Wenwen kept pulling Zhao Menghua's sleeve and winking at him.
Lu Mingfei ignored Zhao Menghua and just rolled his eyes silently in his heart, thinking that you think too highly of these foreign things.
Students at Kassel College don't like drinking that foreign soy milk. Their favorite liquid food for breakfast is sweet tofu pudding and spicy soup.
"I don't drink much coffee, how about you recommend some?"
"Okay." Chu Zihang nodded and ordered: "One iced Americano and one cappuccino. The iced Americano uses Ethiopian beans; the cappuccino uses an Italian blend, which has less bitterness and sourness. Both are completely iced. And two Swiss rolls."
Lu Mingfei watched Young Master Chu spouting professional terms one after another, thinking that his paralyzed senior brother was not on the list of the most powerful people to be killed in vain, and his capitalist style was a bit too much.
When I saw Young Master Chu take out two hundred-dollar bills and put them on the counter and said, "No need to change, this is a tip for you," I became even more certain of this thought.
"Brother Chu, aren't you being too generous?"
As soon as the two of them sat down in a corner of the coffee shop, Lu Mingfei said with a bit of sadness, "Two cups of coffee and two Swiss rolls cost 140 yuan?"
“The price of your cup is not bad, mainly because I use Ethiopian beans, so it is a little more expensive.
If it's Geisha beans, it'll be more expensive. I wanted to let you try mine, but I was afraid you wouldn't be used to it, so I ordered you a cup of milk coffee."
"What about the remaining 60 yuan? That's a huge sum of money! Did you just give it away as a tip?"
"The barista at the bar is also a senior from Shilan Middle School. She is currently studying at a university in this city. Her family is not well off, so she works and studies here."
Chu Zihang said,
"I don't need these 60 yuan, but this is only what she earns in a day and a half of working part-time here."
Lu Mingfei was stunned: "Do you know her?"
"Not really acquaintance, I just met her a few times when I was in the third year of junior high school and sorting out scholarship information for the student union. She was already a third year of high school at that time, exactly three years older than me." "You remember her just because I sorted out information?" Lu Mingfei was suspicious, "Are you interested in her?"
"I didn't know you before, but I remember you now." Chu Zihang said silently.
Lu Mingfei was stunned when he heard this. He suddenly felt that there was something strange in the words, and even a bit terrifying when he thought about it carefully. He immediately moved the stool back a little and pushed it against the wall.
"Why are you sitting back?"
"Nothing, nothing. I'm used to sitting away from people. Let's just chat like this."
Lu Mingfei laughed.
"Brother Chu, what's the matter with you wanting me out today? How did you know my QQ? And don't you have classes in the high school department today?"
Chu Zihang was stunned: "Which question should I answer first?"
"It's all right."
"Okay." Chu Zihang nodded. "We have to go to class this afternoon, but I've asked for leave. I found your QQ on the Shilan Middle School forum. It has some of your information, and it's quite complete."
"My information?" Lu Mingfei was puzzled. "Why is there my information on the Shilan Middle School forum?"
"You'll know after you read it."
“But I can’t access the internet now. Let’s go back and watch it later,” said Lu Mingfei.
For Lu Mingfei, who is used to the future life with WiFi and 4G signals everywhere, going back to 2006 is like going back to primitive society.
"Okay, but it's not something you must watch. I would advise you not to watch it." Chu Zihang said.
After hearing what his paralyzed senior brother said, Lu Mingfei became even more curious about what was written about him on the forum.
The head female barista in a white uniform came over with a tray and put down the coffee and Swiss rolls.
Lu Mingfei took a sip of the cappuccino with milk foam on it, and his tongue immediately shrank as if it had been electrocuted. This cup of coffee was not as delicious as it looked, and it tasted bitter like a Chinese medicine jar that had been overturned.
On the other hand, the pitch-black iced American coffee Chu Zihang drank was obviously more unpalatable than his own, but he was able to drink it without batting an eyelid. Lu Mingfei couldn't help but secretly admire him, thinking that the young masters of capitalists are not the same.
"Ancient Chinese people liked to drink strong tea with very sweet pastries. You can eat it with a Swiss roll, it might be easier to eat." Chu Zihang reminded.
“Forget it, let’s try it later.” Lu Mingfei waved his hand, then sat up straight, “Let’s talk business first, what did you want me to do, Senior Brother?”
In fact, Lu Mingfei had basically guessed what Chu Zihang would ask him - most likely he would ask him about things related to Kassel College.
After escaping from Nibelungen, he knew that one day Chu Zihang would come to find him.
At first, he was still hesitant, wondering whether he should tell his senior brother if he asked him these questions.
As Chu Zihang's father said, if you don't understand these things, you might be happier.
If Senior Brother Chu had not joined Kassel College that year, he would most likely have met an excellent junior sister who was a good match for him in college. The two of them would have gotten to know each other and gone from first love to marriage.
Instead of being like in the previous life, where a few people traveled around the world and risked their lives, fighting with the Dragon King with bayonets.
There is a saying that goes, it is a rare opportunity to be ignorant.
But after thinking about it for a few days, Lu Mingfei still felt that his senior brother had the right to know, so he gave the decision-making power to Chu Zihang.
If he comes to me, I will tell him everything.
"Okay, then I'll tell you." Chu Zihang spoke.
