Chapter 129: Questions about Nirvana, how to help sentient beings transcend to the Pure Land on the other side! [Subscribe]
Abbot Sanzang had just finished speaking.
Lin Xuan spoke in a deep voice:
"Disciple is willing to give it a try!"
Seeing their senior brother decisively stand up, Xiaolong and the other two breathed a sigh of relief.
With Lin Xuan sharing the pressure, everyone's hearts were no longer pounding.
"Brother, you must work harder!"
Xiaohu said to himself, cheering Lin Xuan on.
"Then let me teach you."
Not long after.
Qing Wu walked out from behind Abbot Ming Tong, looked directly at Lin Xuan and smiled slightly.
Seeing the two people confronting each other on the field, Abbot Sanzang and Abbot Mingtong looked at each other.
They didn't speak to each other, but just sat there quietly, wanting to watch how the two would debate.
"Since we are guests, please let Mr. Lin speak first."
Qing Wuduan stood in front of the hall and spoke to Lin Xuanbinran.
"Then it would be disrespectful for me to refuse."
Lin Xuan didn't hesitate and agreed directly.
Immediately, after a brief thought, he asked Qing Wu:
"May I ask Master Qingwu, what is the Treatise on the Ten Stages of Bodhisattva Practice?"
Hearing this, Qingwu was certain.
I didn't expect Lin Xuan's question to be so superficial.
He immediately blurted out:
"The Treatise on the Ten Stages of Bodhisattvahood was written by Nagarjuna Bodhisattva. The book consists of 35 chapters. The first chapter is the general discussion of the book, describing the ten stages of Bodhisattvahood and the three vehicles."
"The second to twenty-seventh chapters are commentaries on the first stage, explaining the content of the first stage and the bodhisattva's practice, vows and results. The eight chapters from the twenty-eighth chapter discuss the second stage, emphasizing the importance of the ten expedient minds and explaining the ten good karmas of the Mahayana bodhisattva."
Hearing this, Lin Xuan thought to himself:
"As expected of a disciple of the White Horse Temple's abbot, your foundation is really solid. You memorized it almost word for word?"
So, after a moment's hesitation, he asked:
“Is there any difference between the non-dual wisdom and the flame wisdom realm?”
"The ten faiths before the ground are for the sake of outer ordinary bodhisattvas. If one practices the Mahayana Dharma, the true and pure nature will be clearly manifested. Can it be for the sake of inner ordinary bodhisattvas?"
As soon as these words came out.
Abbot Mingtong's expression suddenly changed.
Not only him, but even the elders in the White Horse Temple who delved into Tantric Buddhism felt ashamed.
The reason was simple: Lin Xuan's question was too tricky.
If someone doesn't understand the ins and outs of this, they would think he is talking nonsense!
For example, Xiaolong, Xiaohu and Xiaolan were completely confused when they heard what their senior brother said.
What are outer and inner Bodhisattvas? Are Bodhisattvas divided into inner and outer ones?
At this moment, Abbot Sanzang frowned slightly.
He roughly understood what Lin Xuan asked, which was about the content of the Ten Stages of Bodhisattva.
These ten bodhisattvas belong to the first chapter of the previous "Dasabudhyamakasa".
As for the "non-dual wisdom" he mentioned, it is the key to Bodhisattva's practice.
It is equivalent to great compassion and bodhicitta.
"Flame of Wisdom Land" is the first stage of the Ten Lands of Bodhisattvas.
The "Ten Faiths Before the Ground" are the levels of Bodhisattva practice. In addition to the Ten Faiths, there are Ten Dwellings, Ten Practices, and Ten Dedications. There are ten grounds on the ground.
"thin!"
“It’s too thin…”
at the same time.
This was Qing Wu’s first feeling after Lin Xuan asked.
If he wanted to debate with Lin Xuanji, he must first understand the levels of Bodhisattva practice and the essentials of practice.
Especially "the pure nature of the true nature is clearly present", which is still the stage of the present stage. Thinking of this, Qingwu's heart trembled.
He had thought that Lin Xuan's questions were just superficial, but he didn't expect that the killer was here.
After all, Qingwu is the young disciple of Abbot Mingtong. He is very smart and intelligent. He has been reciting Nagarjuna Bodhisattva's "Dashabhumika" since he was a child.
I have memorized its contents by heart.
Even though Lin Xuan's question was so tricky, he still thought about it carefully, and after sorting out the difference, he said with ease:
"Non-dual wisdom is the key to Bodhisattva practice. It refers to the wisdom of non-discrimination and non-duality, which counteracts ignorance and foolish faith in order to seek liberation and enlightenment. I wonder what the meaning of this Flame of Wisdom is from the perspective of Mr. Lin?"
Hearing this, Lin Xuan's mind moved.
Thinking about the Buddhist scripture he read last night, he said without hesitation:
"The Sutra says: 'When enlightenment reaches its apex, it is called the Flame of Wisdom.' When enlightenment reaches its apex, it is called the Perfect Enlightenment of the Buddha. When enlightenment is complete, the light of wisdom will emit flames, like a great fire, illuminating and destroying all emotions and views."
“This wisdom is to escape from suffering and to obtain happiness, so there is no difference between the two wisdoms, yet the path is the same.”
As Lin Xuan explained the Flame Wisdom Land clearly, everyone present was shocked when they heard it.
Especially Abbot Mingtong.
His heart was in turmoil and he looked at Lin Xuan in disbelief.
How can this boy understand the study of Tantra so thoroughly?
To be free from suffering and happiness is clearly the truth of suffering among the Four Noble Truths.
Using this interpretation to explain the ten stages of Bodhisattva is really refreshing!
Here, Qing Wu felt a little embarrassed facing Lin Xuan's clever argument.
He originally wanted to stump Lin Xuan, but he didn't expect the latter to answer the question himself.
Because of the next outer and inner Bodhisattvas, he cannot lose.
He gritted his teeth and argued with Lin Xuan:
"The Ten Faiths are the first of the Three Sages and the first of all practices. However, if one wishes to move from the ordinary to the holy, one must start with faith. It starts with faith and ends with aspiration, so as to facilitate the true practice of the Bodhisattva."
"After obtaining these ten faiths, one should continue to cultivate and practice the true method, and should manifest the mind of the ten abodes. The true essence of this mind will shine brightly, allowing the ten functions of faith to be involved in the brightness and perfection of the virtue of one mind. The Sutra says: 'With the true method, the ten minds will be aroused, the essence of the mind will shine, the ten functions will be involved, and perfection will be achieved in one mind. This is called the abode of the mind.'"
"The Mahayana Dharma is nothing but the Bodhi mind. The pure conduct of the true nature is clearly present. It is the ten stages, not the ten stages of attainment. This is why it is difficult for ordinary bodhisattvas."
What Qingwu said was almost the same as what Lin Xuan thought.
However, he spoke too generally about Mahayana Buddhism, and it cannot be equated with the Ten Stages of Bodhisattvas.
Even so, in Lin Xuan's opinion, he had answered the question.
From this we can see that the eloquence of Abbot Mingtong's young disciple is truly extraordinary.
Fortunately, Lin Xuan had read the Three Vehicles yesterday, so he changed his mind and suddenly felt blessed and asked:
"The Pratyekabuddha Vehicle and the Ten Stages of Perfect Enlightenment both practice the Dharma of the Awakening Vehicle. Why is this considered the Hinayana Vehicle, while the Ten Stages of Perfect Enlightenment are considered the Mahayana Vehicle?"
After asking this question, Qingwu fell silent.
He racked his brains but couldn't come up with an answer for a while.
After all, the teachings of Tantric Buddhism are all Mahayana teachings.
He seldom dabbled in the teachings of the Hinayana, which, in his opinion, were nothing but dross.
Seeing his disciple stunned, Abbot Mingtong felt a little panicked. He also began to ponder over what Lin Xuan said.
But the next moment, he seemed to realize something and stood up suddenly:
"Nirvana... Question about Nirvana?!"
at the same time.
When the elders of the White Horse Temple who were present heard this, they were also stunned and looked at Lin Xuan in disbelief.
This kid actually asked the question about Nirvana?
Could it be the reincarnation of the Buddha?
"Master, what is the question of Nirvana?"
the other side.
Xiaolong, Xiaohu and Xiaolan were extremely curious when they saw Abbot Mingtong losing his composure, and they hurriedly asked Abbot Sanzang in a low voice.
Abbot Sanzang explained:
"The question of Nirvana is about the method to lead sentient beings beyond birth and death to the Pure Land on the other side."
"The Buddha spoke of the Three Vehicles: the first is the Vehicle of the Voice-hearers, the second is the Vehicle of the Pratyekabuddhas, and the third is the Vehicle of the Bodhisattvas, which are the Mahayana and the Vehicle of the Tathagata."
"The first two vehicles are both Hinayana, only the Bodhisattva Vehicle is Mahayana."
"What your brother asked seems to be about the difference between Hinayana and Mahayana, but in fact it is a veiled reference to the Six Paramitas and the Dharma of Convenient Means."
……
It's a headache to find information. The Buddhist sayings in it are not the author's nonsense.
